we have an old windows 2000 pc. we tried to install some software but it blocked us and said we do not have admin rights. is there a way to install software on it by booting up from a CD/software or log in as an admin.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Just login as administrator - if you don't know the password see http://www.petri.co.il/forgot_administrator_password.htm

munzer,

Use the user name Administrator as you start and login.  Enter your admin password or leave it blank, if you never set a password.

Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.

You are saying type in "Administrator" and leave password blank. I am sure there is a password.i just do not know what it is.

It seems you have to buy some software that will either reset the password or read it and decrypt it.

The login name should still be Administrator (unless that was changed).  The program KCTS suggested above is free and is a popular tool to reset the Admin password when lost.  All credit to him if that fixes this.
