Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extended_System_Configuration_Data  Are you looking to dump the bios in order to read code? It would help to know who made your bios. for example if you have a phoenix bios then nvram.exe would allow you to dump and edit escd. http://groups.google.com/group/comp.os.msdos.misc/browse_thread/thread/94e5528660d82ca3

CMOS is the Chip that the BIOS program is stored in. The ESCD is also stored in the CMOS chip.
The ESCD area is a special part of your  CMOS memory, where BIOS settings are held. This area of memory is used to hold configuration information for the hardware in your system. At boot time the BIOS checks this area of memory and if no changes have occurred since the last bootup,it continues with the startup. The ESCD information is stored in a non-volatile CMOS memory area, the same way that standard BIOS settings are stored.

Essentially the output of the ESCD is the information that is shown in device manager.
