Outlook will only open in safe mode

I have Office 2007 Enterprise Edition installed on a HP Pavilion.

Outlook freezes on opening and then will only open in safe mode.

I have re-installed but have the same problem.

I have checked other solutions to no avail.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I am seeing this issue mentioned in many places on the web.  By any chance, do you have Adobe Acrobat's PDFMaker Outlook Add-in installed?  PDFMaker has been mentioned as causing conflicts with Outlook.  Good luck with this problem.  Keep us posted.

Hello ttiffany,

1. An addin could be corrupt. Disable Outlook Addins.  Go to Tools > Trust Center > Add-Ins disable the addins.

If Outlook does not open, go to Start > Run - and type outlook /safe

2. Check if an external program running in the background is interfering with Outlook. Check Firewall, antivirus, antispyware, antispam, and all Norton programs. Disable these programs one at a time.

3. Create a new Outlook profile.

4. If no joy, reinstall Outlook.  Go to Add/Remove Programs and highlight Microsoft Office. Click on Install/Uninstall.  A menu will pop allowing you to choose repair or reinstall.

Hope this helps!

I've also seen instances where a program will run fine under one user profile when it doesn't work at all on the same computer for a different user.  You might want to try logging on to the computer as a different user to see if the problem is related to the user profile. If the problem does not exist for a new user, rename and recreate the problem user profile (make sure you rename the local and network version of the user profile if applicable).

B y the way, I believe it is Adobe Acrobat 8.1 that works with Office 07, anything earlier is not supported.
