settings question regarding server 2003 as a virtual machine

Hello guys.  I downloaded an eval copy vm workstaiton 6.  I;m setting up my first virtual machine which will be server 2003 standard edition.  Here's my questions:  should I use bridged networking or NAT.  Should I allocate the default 8gb of disk space or should I allocate the fule disk space.  I know people here have recommended 384 or 512 for memory and what about the processor.  Is that something I have to allocate as well or now.  Thanks for your help.  I'm a beginner but I really want to learn this as I'm sure we'll be using this at work soon enough.  It was recommended here that I start with workstation and then move on to server.  Some people on this board are doing some cool things which I hope to eventually progress to.  Anyway, I just want to set this up right.  Thanks again.  Bill.

You should be using NAT, as that will connect the server to the network.
You can allocate as much diskspace as you'd like. My personal oppinion is to not split them in 2GB parts and NOT allocate the diskspace now.
Keep in mind when allocating Memory that the memory assigned to the VMWare machine is the same memory your PC is using. But for 2003 i'd say you allocate at least 512 (if your PC can handle it). Always try to keep 512 MB Memory left for your PC because if you allocate too much your PC will start getting slow.
Also a tip i can give you. After you install your server, Install VMWare Tools. My experience with it is that te Machine will run a bit faster then.

Goodluck.

Artellos, I currently have windows xp sp2 installed on my laptop.  Resource wise, am I better off leaving xp as the host operating system or am I fine upgrading to windows vista business and then installing my vms?  I just figured maybe I'm better off with xp because vista is such a resource hog.  I have two gigs of ram now so I'm assuming if I upgrade to vista I should probably add another two gigs.  Anyway, what are your thoughts.  Thanks again for all your help.  I hope you guys are prepared for more questions.  I'm just getting my feet wet with vmware but I know this is something I have to learn.  I'm starting out with workstation but then I guess it's a must to move onto server and esx so I can simulate a network eviornment.  Thanks again.
