the pen for a gateway tablet pc does not work

The pen does not work.  It says you shoud replace the tip.  The tip is still there sticking out?  How can you figure out what is wrong?  What wears out?  the actual nylon tip or something internal?  Is it a battery or something?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The actual nib (the tip) does wear out - check to see if your tablet came with any replacement nibs, and if not, you can just go buy some new pen nibs from Best Buy or if you buy a new pen from Gateway they usually throw in a few spare nibs.

More recent models have no batteries in the pen but do have a habit of losing their input drivers.
Try going into Device Manager and deleting the HID input drivers and allowing Windows to reinstall them on boot.
