I created dhcp pool but noticed i was not receiving an ip address for a device connected on vlan1 of the integrated 8 port switch.  After looking all thru the IOS software i broke down and used the SDM software and noticed that on the DCHP page it said it was not assign on no interfaces.  I went back to IOS but could not find where i could assign my DHCP pool to vlan1 interface.

You don't assign the pool to an interface. You simply create the pool. When a request is received from that network, the an address from the pool is assigned. In your case, an IP address on VLAN 1 should be on the same network as the pool.

for example:
ip dhcp pool test
 network 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0

int vlan 1
 ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
