Customize icon for installed application

I've created a new icon to my application. It shows up as a shortcut application and is in the folder for my application. I'd like to have the same icon be set to the icon that I've added to the project after the MSI installation.

How could I achieve this?

Please advice.

Hi,

You can change the add/remove programs icon, the banner image and some text but the icon from the msi I never sow it!

Yes I have managed to change the add/remove program to my icon. But the icon used in the shortcut created both in the desktop and the Start->All Program are default. What I want is to change that icon to my customized icon.

I do not have any intention to change the default icon of the msi.

You have created the shortcut for the places that you need. All you have to do is select the shortcut and in the porperties window select the icon you want. You have to do that for all the shortcuts.

I have defined the icon in all the forms and the application->properties->application. I have also defined the AddRemoveProgramsIcon in the setup project and it all works fine. But when the application is being installed, the shortcut to run the application both in the desktop and in the Start->All Program, the icon is a default one. How could I change it to my customized icon?

When I run the application, all windows that created does have my customized icon except for the shortcut in the desktop and in the Start->All Program as indicated.

Please advice.

You have to set the icon for the shortcuts that you have created

How do you create the shortcut for your application ? You select the users desktop, right-click on the right panel and select "create new shortcut". Then you choose the exe file. If you select the created shortcut you will see on the propertie window the icon.

Where do I locate the users desktop? I have tried to open a window Select Item in Project and when I select the User's desktop, there is no way that I could perform a right-click. On the right side, there are 3 buttons namely Add File, Add Output, Add Assemblies.

I have go ahead to add an icon file at User's desktop and User's Program Meny and when I install the msi, I have additional icon that I have specified. The application shortcut is still using the default icon, not the one that I want.

Please advice me whether I am on the right track.

You are using VS2005 and VS Setup Project right ? By default you have Application Folder, User's Desktop and User's Programs Menu. You can add shortcuts to any exe file and then can change the icon.
