Cannot log onto server

I had a problem server that was a DC and then I removed AD role from it and put it back to being a member server.  It prompted for new admin password which I entered twice.  Upon reboot, I now can't logon with that account or any other account.  I need to logon to it to transfer over some files and settings....help!

No, tried administrator account and a few other accounts too and none will work even though I know they work on other servers/workstations.

Sometimes the demote process needs something else more to really clear AD completely. You should test to logon locally (to the machine name) with that account you mentioned that you have created, and test also if you can logon to the domain using some account of the domain.

You did both tests and still can't logon. Is it ?

Have another DC so logons everywhere else work fine.  I tested logging on locally to the server too and same result.  It seems the demote process got messed up somehow.

You do not have a backup of system state od tha server while it was a dc, have you ?

No, server crashed a few days ago and wouldn't boot.  Was able to run a repair and boot back into it fine.  Problems only started once I demoted the server this morning.  I can get away with not getting into it but I need to migrate my Trend installation and it would be much easier than doing from scratch.  I can get to the files on the server's hard drive remotely but can't do the Trend migration without being logged in.

How do you authenticate to get those files ? Which account do you use ?

rohnlawadminAuthor Commented:
Nevermind....I thought I was able to get to the files remotely but it didn't work.  Prompts for logon but no account works.
