I can no longer play sample m3u audio tracks from Amazon.com, although all is OK with other streaming audio mp3 and m3u. I'm using Windows Media Player 11 and it is the default player for m3u files. Recently I installed and then uninstalled Apple itunes and quicktime, but I can't be sure if the timing was concurrent with the problem.
I also attempted to run regsvr32.exe wmp.dll from the command prompt as suggested in an EE post, but got error message 0x8002801c. Later I came across a warning that running this could mess up other things.

By a process of elimination, I determine the problem to be related to a setting on my antivirus. It now is OK.

thanks for the feedback mongillo, is this Norton by any chance?
Your AV should not blocking/ preventing you from playing samples at Amazon unless it has blocked the site or the has been added to your restrictions.

My antivirus is BitDefender and after adjusting the settings it all performs properly.

does that work?
You could also try a system restore.
however please note,
Quicktime is a required component with your windows, as this is Vista includes Itunes.
Please re-install quicktime
If you want quicktime without Itunes

To have video playback from web pages these are the standard required programs.

This error means that regsvr32 was not able to access and/or update the registry. Check the permissions on the part of the registry where access is denied. You can run regmon to manually fix the registry.
Try deleting your cookies and internet history temp files.
