I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What should 1A and 1B be, just 1?

This would be a formula, using the val function at the very minimum:

val({table.field})

If this doesn't meet your needs, then provide further sample data with expected output.

Use my formula to sort first, then sort by the original field,

WITH YOUR FORMULA THE LETTERS ARE GONE

bdreed35Commented:
Don't display my formula, just use it for sorting.
Sorting won't work properly with just your field, that is why you need the formula

i don't catch you

bdreed35Commented:
You created the formula, right?  Go to the Report menu, and click on the Record Sort Expert.
Add the formula as the first field to sort on, and then add the original field after that.
Leave the original field on your report for displaying the value.
Does that help?
