Relay mail error

Hello,

We have just moved over to exchange 2007 from our web host. We have an asp storefront shopping cart. The issue we are having is that from storefront we can't reset the passwords for our web customers without getting an error.

When I reset the password for an account I have created which has a mailbox on our server the reset function works just fine.

I am pretty sure I have my app configs set up properly in asp storefront but I am wondering if this is a possible exchange issue.

The error from storefront is "The Customer's Password Has NOT Been Changed!!! You do not have your mail server AppConfigs setup, so we did NOT change the password, because there would be no way to communicate it to the customer!Mail Error occurred - Exception=Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay<br />"

We have our password resest set to go through a public folder in exchange which is the PF where we get our order confirmations.

Anyway I found this from the asp site:

"Symptoms
The storefront has been properly configured to send emails but they are not being sent.

Cause
Your host most likely does not allow mail relay.

Solution
Many hosts disable mail relay to prevent spam abuse.  Emails will only be sent if they come from a valid server/address.  You will probably not have any issues once the site is running on the production server.  In the meantime, many hosts/broadband providers can provide POP mail servers that can be used."

well we are are own host so I was wondering how I can enable mail relay so this will work.

Thanks in advance

So, do you actually have full control of the Exchange server?  If so, enable relaying for the single IP of the other server -> http://exchangepedia.com/blog/2007/01/exchange-server-2007-how-to-allow.html

I tried to set up the ip of the other server where our mail is hosted as per the link you gave me, I still get the same error though (In storefront)

"Mail Error occurred - Exception=Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.1 Unable to relay<br /> "

I do have full control of the exchange server and the relay connector is there but not working.

Thanks

It worked like a charm - It turns out that I was using the wrong web server in the relay connector - apparently our web host gave me the wrong info on the ip address.

Thanks,
Mike
