the remote server did not respond to connection attempt Exchange 2003

I am using SBS 2003 and am using exchange since 2 years ago, everything was working well until 3 days ago, I saw that the exchange has an error "the remote server did not respond to connection  attempt" I am using comcast as  an ISP and using smtp.comcast.net as a SMTP connector. I am a beginner in exchange, I changed to use DNS to route th eemails but it is nor working either, Can you please help me to resolve this issue

There are a few things this could be..

first lets do some basic tests:

open a Comand Prompt, and type "ping smtp.comcast.net" do you see their server?
then do "telnet smtp.comcast.net 25" and hit return do you get a reply from their server?

if you get a responce from these, then good, we know that side isnt working, if not you need to talk to your ISP about mail server issues (either its down, or they have blocked you from sending email out)

If you get a responce from these, then its an excahnge issue, restart the server or exchange and SMTP services, and try those 2 tests again.

the solution was different, I had  to open the port 587 on smtp
