Any free flash streaming solutions ?

Hello!
Anyone know of any free solutions such as that Orb Cast thing( http://www.orb.com/orb/ ) that I could use on my server to stream all my video and music using flash ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This red5 seems sweet. However, do you guys know of anything that encodes/converts video to flash on the fly ? Like the Orb thing again.

Ah you see, I have a ton of video in a lot of different formats...well..ok..like..3 different formats total....but I wanted a way to stream them from my website on my computer. Orb provies this great free service where you can simply log into their website and you'd access your computer from there, It has an option to stream all your video all your video using flash, but in my case I'd like to just go straight to my computer......hope that made sense...but what do you think...is flash the way to go for me ?..I just assumed using flash would be the easiest, but after doing some research..ive concluded this is no way in hell easy hehehe...

The flash media encoder seems cool.....only for "live" video ? Like..um webcam?

yes, webcam could be too, but also any camera device. In your case if you want to keep the different formats flash is not for you, unless you want to really pass some years developing that conversion/streaming solution yourself. ;)
You could create some server application (asp.net , php, java so on) that reads from database the videos, determine the format and generate proper html output for them to be displayed, for example, if extension is mov, generate object tag for quicktime, if wmv, generate embed for media player , and so on, it would be reeeally  easier. If you wanna go flash, you must convert all. I don't think you will find a free solution for multiple on the fly conversions like you want. I'll do some more research, but.....

Think of youtube. They accept anyformat, but as soon as you post your file it will be converted. It is the same as if you use Flash Video Encoder (not Media Encoder! ), that batch conversion tool that comes with flash , so you can create a qeue an convert lots of files FROM different formats into flv. It is a lot cheaper and you benefit from very high compression/high quality On2VP6 codec, flash interativity as you can create a player yourself to play the videos and give them functionality, and so on. It is a one time big work, but then you can just convert videos on demand, as you get new ones, convert and publish. Once you batch convert all of them (say you have 500, you let your machine working few days if needed) you are free to go.
