This red5 seems sweet. However, do you guys know of anything that encodes/converts video to flash on the fly ? Like the Orb thing again.
maybe you could use flash media encoder? What do you need to do exactly?

Ah you see, I have a ton of video in a lot of different formats...well..ok..like.. 3 different formats total....but I wanted a way to stream them from my website on my computer. Orb provies this great free service where you can simply log into their website and you'd access your computer from there, It has an option to stream all your video all your video using flash, but in my case I'd like to just go straight to my computer......hope that made sense...but what do you think...is flash the way to go for me ?..I just assumed using flash would be the easiest, but after doing some research..ive concluded this is no way in hell easy hehehe...
The flash media encoder seems cool.....only for "live" video ? Like..um webcam?

yes, webcam could be too, but also any camera device. In your case if you want to keep the different formats flash is not for you, unless you want to really pass some years developing that conversion/streaming solution yourself. ;)
You could create some server application (asp.net , php, java so on) that reads from database the videos, determine the format and generate proper html output for them to be displayed, for example, if extension is mov, generate object tag for quicktime, if wmv, generate embed for media player , and so on, it would be reeeally easier. If you wanna go flash, you must convert all. I don't think you will find a free solution for multiple on the fly conversions like you want. I'll do some more research, but.....

Sounds good! Julian thank you sooo much for your help! I got a lot of work to do hehe.
ffmpeg could do the 'encoding on fly' combinated with php i.e. http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/
