Problem installing CRM3.0 on 2003 Server

Hi,
We are trying to install MS CRM 3.0 on a Windows 2003 Server (not a DC).

I have installed everything to meet the prerequesits. On the install wizard, during the 'Select Organization unit' if I click 'browse' to look for an OU i get 'Unable to browse for Active Directory objects'.

How can i get it to browse to my SBS 2003 AD server???

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

First of all: is the server member of the domain?
Second: CRM3.0 is very picky about the domain requirements: there is a special version for SBS server, but **that must be installed on the SBS server itself** not on a member server. So which edition of CRM do you have?

Version CRM3.0 Professional

Currently im trying to get it to work on a Windows 2003 File server that is a member of the domain but is not a DC (no ad installed etc...)

Does it need to be an DC on the network?

Redwulf__53Commented:
No crm3.0 pro should be installed on a member server. Next step: verify network config and connectivity. Install the support tools msi from the Windows CD (SUPPTOOLS), then run the command netdiag.exe from the command line. Post the result back here.

You ***-out the actual IP configuration, you ****er!
You probably configured the wrong DNS server address in the IP settings. The server should use the same DNS server IP that your Domain Controller uses.
So for example  if the DC is configured like this:
IP 192.168.1.2 / 255.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS server 192.168.1.2

then your CRM server could be:
IP 192.168.1.3/25.255.255.0
Gateway 192.168.1.1
DNS server 192.168.1.2

Hope this helps!

that looks like its cracked that prob thanks...... :-)

Just a quick one:

> What are the main difference between CRM Pro and CRM Small Business??
> Also - Once we have CRM pro installed on the server. What do we install client side? Is there a seperate install on the server for clients?

Cheers

-Only difference is licensing, not functional (except you can only install SBS version on SBS server)
-Almost all functionality is available through the browser (Internet Explorer only).
Additionally There is the "Sales for Outlook" client that integrates the same info into Outlook, and offers the option to synchronize to a laptop, makes appointments appear in calendar, and import e-mails into the CRM system.
Don;t forget there's also the Exchange Router component that enables you route e-mails into the CRM system. This needs to be installed on your Exchange server.

thanks for that.

Do you know any good websites or downloads on how to configure CRM as when i browse to the CRM site from a client on the correct port i get:

'Authentication Error
Microsoft CRM could not log you on to the system. Make sure your user record is enabled and that you have been assigned at least one security role. For more information, contact your system administrator'

I think I've helped you resolve your original question (and a bit more). According to EE policy you will need to ask follow-up questions as new questions. CRM is a very complex and sometimes difficult product.
