How do I access MS SQL Server 2005 using C++ from Linux

I have a c++ application on linux that needs to access a MS SQL Server 2005 database to select and execute T-SQL commands. I have found freetds.org however no simple explaination on how to use it from c++ (NOT MICROSOFT VISUAL C++). I am very familar on how to do this in a Windows environment however I need a good sample or walkthrough for the linux environment. I am not opposed to other free technologies like ODBC.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can use ODBC to do that. See http://www.easysoft.com/developer/interfaces/odbc/linux.html ("Linux/UNIX ODBC") and http://libodbcxx.sourceforge.net/ ("libodbc++") in particular.
