Can you login Exchange 2003 with an alais?

I have an existing user with an ID already created; but also added in a email alias.  They want to login with the alias instead of the other ID.  Can this be done?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Why not create the alias as a user and add the old ID as an alias to the new account?

They are already using the account and did not want to have to make a new one if possible.
With no offense intended, I think this is one of the situations wherein you should tell the user no.

Is this a case of someone getting remarried and having a name change?  If so, why not rename the account entirely to the new name.  It can be done without breaking things.
