Peachtree Complete Accounting 2007 on VPN
We have just setup VPN connection with SBS 2003 as the server.  Most of our computers, though not all connecting to server are vista based.  VPN connecting and reading mapdrive and all files such as words, exell with no problem.  The problem is setting up Peachtree Complete Accounting 2007 (NOT multi user version).  We are unable to connect it to the server (open any company).  When we try for it to read data from the map drive z, it times out and gives error of pervasive 9. On another computer, it would say database on computer unavailable.  Peachtree suggests us to buy Peachtree Premium Multiuser 2008.  It is very expensive.  I want to make sure this will work before buying/ upgrading.  Or do you know if Peachtree Complete multi user version work too? Can anyone help?  Thank you so much

How large are the company files you are trying to access and what type(s) of internet connections are your using?

The company data folder is 348 mb.  The internet connection is DSL with static IP.

I don't know that what you are looking to do is feasible, even with a sweet 6 meg DSL connection it would take over 8 minutes to download all of the data. (I know not all of the data is downloaded) - The company file seems too large. Please note that on a 6 Mb/s DSL connection the upstream is normally 768 Kb/s, sometimes 1.5 Mb/s.

Here is the math I used
6 Mb/s x 1000 (1000 Kb in 1 Mb) = 6000 Kb/s
6000 Kb/s DSL / 8 (8 bits in 1 byte) = 750 KB/s down
384 MB x 1000 (1000 KB in 1 MB) = 384,000 KB
384,000 KB / 750 KB/s = 512 s
512 s / 60 = 8.53 minutes

It just does not seem like you have enough bandwidth, there are also some other limiting factors such as upload speed from the other end. I would suggest something like terminal services or a virtual server that clients can remote to access this program / file at the office where the data is located.

To answer your question no I don't think that Peachtree Premium Multiuser 2008 will solve your problem.

I see.  Would it make any difference if we use RDC instead of VPN? Since peachtree tech suggested that as well.  Thanks.

Also, our non-peachtree file folder size is 341 mb and we could acces it perfectly fine.  I am confused.

We run peachtree across a t1 and it is so slow as to be almost unusable. Remote desktop only works with Peachtree PREMIUM. you can get around this by having peachtree complete already open on the workstation you are connecting to. (you must use the same login name as the user who launched peachtree)

Small Business Server (SBS) is a line of server operating systems targeted at small businesses by bundling the operating system with a number of other Microsoft products that would normally need to be purchased or licensed separately. The most notable inclusions are Exchange, SQL Server, SharePoint and ISA/TMG (Microsoft's firewall and proxy server).
