VNC connection error 10061 (connection refused)

A long time ago I had a successful connection from my Windows to a Linux (Fedora Core) using VNC.
I now have to redo some work on that Linux machine (down for 2 years !)
But now it fails
I get a connection refused error 10061 when trying to access it
I have reviewed the config and it looks ok on Linux side :
I checked the startup config for vncservers. it contains 1:myname in the list
As myname, I ran vncpasswd to respecify my password
I reboot the Linux and verified that Xvnc was running (vncserver -kill :1 and then vncserver :1)
But got again the 10061 error
Whatelse should I check ?

Did you check that there are no firewalls that are blocking remote access to the VNC ports you are using ?
