Dual Monitors on DELL Vostro 200?
Hi,
I am looking at getting a DELL Vostro 200 from DELL. They have said the system is to basic for dual monitors. They said:
'The chipset is designed to hold the graphics card chosen at POS , this is sufficient for single monitor support, The graphic cards available for this system are integrated, 128 or 256 Ati .Dual monitor support is not supported by Dell on this system'
Would i be able to add an additional basic grahics card and run 2 monitors - 1 monitor on the new graphics card and the 2nd monitor runing through the onboard VGA?
Thanks

and this will work fine with this PC?
Just strange how DELL said the machine wasnt good enough for dual displays....

A twin head card should work anywhere. It sounds like Dell will prevent the second card working with the onboard. Dual monitor is not supported, doesn't mean it won't work with an appropriate card.

I know this post was a long, long time ago, but I just have to throw in my 2 cents because I just went through this mess last week on a 10 system deployment for a client.
I do believe, even after the user installs a dual-video supported video card into the Vostro 200's PCI Express x16 slot, such as this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814143101
the user will still find that dual display setups (both mini tower and slim tower defualt configurations, does not matter) won't work no matter how hard the user tries because the Vostro 200 default setup includes Microsft Windows Vista Basic (Home Edition) which natively DOES NOT support dual display setups. A response that the "machine isn't good enough for dual displays" from Dell would clearly be explained if the user has the standard OS installed on the Vostro. You must explicitly UPGRADE to Vista Business or Vista Ultimate or DOWNGRADE (for a $99 fee) to WinXP if you want a dual display configuration with either Vostro tower unit. Perhaps the user (YB) or the Dell Sales Rep misconstrued the question and thought it was a hardware issue, but clearly Windows Vista Base Home Edition is the culprit of this issue. Changing the default OS installed on the machine will fix the dual display issue. Hope this helps.

We resolved the issue Ta.
We installed Vista Ultimate as we are Microsoft Gold certified Partners, We already knew that Vista home didn't support dual monitors, so knew we had to upgrade to Vista ultimate or something like that.
I have found in the last few months that Dell have said one thing and we have been talking about the oposite, some of there staff dont seem to understand the basics!

LOL! I know what you mean about Dell's staff, sometimes leaves much to be desired. Oh well, in the off chance anyone else is searching for clues to this issue, they will find this thread in a Google search and know what direction to go accordingly (as belated a discussion that it is!) Thanks for the followup response all the same. Greetz!! ;)
