Using Router's DNS resolves hostname incorrectly

I have a typical SOHO internet setup, Cablevision/Optimum online. My PCs are setup to use the router's IP for DNS. I've always thought the router would forward the DNS query out to the Internet, but now I'm not so sure. I use DynDNS.org dynamic hostnames for many customers. Quite often, I won't be able to connect to a customer network and find that the IP my PC resolves for that hostname is different than what it should be. 1) I find that the dyndns updater is working properly on the client PC
2) If I log into dyndns.org account and check the IP they have on record for the client, it is correct.
3) If I ping the host name from the client PC, it returns the correct IP
4) If I ping the hostname from my PC I get an old IP address, not the current dynamic IP address
5) If I manually change my PCs DNS entry to Cablevision's DNS servers, The correct IP is resolved.

Apparently, my router is answering DNS queries without asking it's dns servers. Why is this? What's going on?
