Can not delete SQL Server 2005 Express

I have followed Microsofts advice from their knowledge base to manually uninstall SQL.  It appears to un install but always remained listed in the services list even though they were not started.  I was able to reinstall and it looked clean, except when I try to connect a Webfilter "Surfcontrol" to it, it will not.  I had Surfcontrols support connect remotely and they are saying there are still instances of the old SQL install left and it is causing conflict.  Is there a way to completely remove SQL server? This all started when i came in one day to see a msg on the screen saying my SQL Server is corrupt and to please un and re install it.  My next step is a wipe and reinstall of the server if I can not get a solution.

This looks great but I ended up doing a wipe and reinstall.  Thanks though
