What would cause Pages/sec to max out?

Last week my SQL server was running really slowly.  So I opened a profile and stated to monitor the Performance.  I noticed that the Pages/sec was maxing out but could not see what was causing it to max out.  My questions are what might cause this to happen and what is the best way to monitor my SQL to trouble shoot when it is running slow.

Thanks,

Look at your anti-virus and backup agents, these are big culprits.  Try disabling them one at a time to see if performance improves.

bhess1,

Thanks for your reply.  I just took a quick look at the server and it has only 3 gigs of RAM.  I am going to see about throwing more RAM at it.  I cannot do too much in the way of stored procedures due to the fact that we are using 3 party software that uses the SQL server.

The beating my head against the wall did not seem to help much, however it did take care of my headache.
