asked on

single network user not accessing web

I have a small network of about 120 users and for some reason 1 user keeps getting denied access to the web.
- she can log on but after a short while her access to the internet disappears.
- there are no errors, just a blank page.
- i can log on to her machine and everything works seamlessly.
- after i log on/off she can log on and everything works fine
- windows server 2003 environment
- local machine is xp

i am guessing its an authentication issue, but am unsure where to start troubleshooting.

At the same time she gets access denied to the Web do you notice if her network access is denied as well?

not that i have seen, but i have not been at her machine when it first happens. she just comes and grabs me or submits a helpdesk ticket.
May be something to check next time it happens. If possible try to ping the PC.
Can help you to know if this problem is account or software specific or if its a PC/Network connectivity issue.

Couple of other questions:
Are you using anything else like WebMasrshal on your network to control web access?
Is this user connecting via terminal server?

when it happens there are no network interruptions.
i can ping inside the network fine to and from that pc.
we do use some web filtering software but i don't see anything within that that could be blocking her.
on anysite she tries to go to the <title> of the page will load but the page will appear blank.
she can send and receive email fine (our exchange server is hosted internally)
the eu is not connected via term server.
What is she ising for her browser Internet Explorer?
Can try to install Firefox and see if the same problem exists.
If its okay in FireFox then try to reload/Reinstall her browser

she is using ie6. i installed ie7 and the problems are still there. i switched over to the admin account and am running a local sweep for spyware/virus.
ie6/7 and ff all run fine under my account.
If they both work fine under your account on her PC, then I would rename her profile to userbak.
Then have the user log back on, creating new profile, then check the Web Access.
This should rule out any problems with the users profile.

fresh install of ie7 doesn't work for her account, but ff does.
she is fine with using ff so all is good and i can revisit the problem when she isn't trying to get work done.
shouldn't an install of ie7 cleared up any problems if they resided in ie?
