Windows Media Center displays "Video Error" message.

After performing a system restore, the windows media center can no longer play video.  An error message of:

" Video Error  files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. Please restart Media Center and/or restart the computer"

I have restarted both media center and the computer.  I have reinstalled the video software.

Please help.

Thanks My51chevy

This is for a friend of mine.  I can not give you a reason for performing the system restore.  They tried to "fix it" before calling me.
Thanks oh well it may have helped to find the problem quicker.
I have reinstalled the video software<< as in the video card?
if the directx diag does not report any problems I suggest look at logs first.
In control panel admin tools event viewer, what errors does it report there?
Might point a date of a bad install or something.
If another media player was installed?
please let us know the video card there is it onboard or a PCI such as nvidiea or ATI, an onboard can be fixed by  rolling th edriers back or booting to safemode uninstall and then reboot re-install.
Nvidia / ATI need a bit more, I found the best way to fix them, if the owner updated a driver before removing the previous it may have corrupted it.
reboot atp F8 in the advanced options scroll down below the safemode options an choose start computer in VGA
once back in the awful desktop  uninstall the drivers for the video card, reboot it will find new hardware  use the default drivers.

It appears that it was a codec or video driver issue.  after re-installing both the codec and the video driver the issue was resolved.

Thanks,
