Multiple Headsets through one PC

Hi experts,

I'm wondering is it possible to have multiple headsets (for VOIP connections) going through the one pc? Is there some sort of adapter unit and program I can get to do this?

Thanks,

D

Can you provide a little more detail in how you would want to use them? are you doing multiple calls through a single PC? or are you just planning to have multiple people on the same conversation? anything?

in the former setup it may be a bit tricky to direct the application to the partiular audio device. depends on the application.
in the latter setup, you may need multiple sound cards, or possibly just multiple USB headsets and USB ports to connect them to.

Sorry yes I was a little vague.alright.

I have been asked to research setting up a live role-playing game (all people in the one room with no pcs in front of them). There would be 30 people in the room and I would like them all to have individual headsets for communication with one another. Then the administrator would connect 2 individuals for a conversation at various points in the game. At the moment I have been looking into Astersik technology to achieve this but I'm not sure if I can put all the connections through one high powered pc (or even 2 or 3?) Is there any sound card hubs available for a large amount of headset connections?

Cheers,

D
I guess you could do it all through Asterisk, but if the player's aren't going to have PC's in front of them, and they'll all be running off of the same server/game box, that might be a little tricky. I don't know of devices with 30+ sound ports. I suppose you could go through USB headsets but they'd all have to be fairly close.

Is this a game your developing? If the moderator/admin is going to be able to connect particular individuals for private conversations, you'll have to have some level of control over the audio in/out channels.
Yes this is a game I'm developing. I've come to a bit of a dead end with it though as local technology experts tell me there's no way I'll be able to operate up to 100 wireless headsets in a space of 50 x 50 m. From my understanding, Bluetooth would also be out of the question so I'm not sure I have many other options left?

Cheers,
