Cannot send SMTP traffic using outlook

Dear Experts:

I am having an issue that I need some idea on how to go by and fix it. Our network has a Cisco 3000 VPN concentrator that once you are VPN you can get IMAP4 email from a Linux sever that is connected via L2l  to a remote location. We have outlook configure to receive emails from MS Exchange which we received and send fine into our outlook. We have a second setting configure in outlook for the IMAP4 email from the Linux machine. Once we VPN we can send from the IMAP4 setting, but we cannot send, we get this error message:

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

>       marcelo.zamorano@gmail.com on 3/3/2008 5:35 PM
>             554 5.7.1 <name@domain.com>: Relay access
> denied

this only happens when we VPN to the network. We can use the web client when we are connected to VPN. I know what it might be, but some confirmation or tips will be helpful.

I have checked the IP address that is setup in postfix and it looks like is enter correctly to relay SMTP traffic through the VPN.  Has anyone out there dealt with this already? I am thinking that is  the IP address for the VPN in the POSFIX server might be wrong. Thanks, M
