guidelines for updating domain adm password

After joining a new IT organization, my supervisors want to have the adminstrator password changed.

I'm looking for any guidelines that anyone may have from their own experience, or have knowledge of, before I update the password.  For example, what side-effects should I look out for.

Also, if I want to change it back to the old password in the event that things go crazy, putting the old password back should restore those things that went crazy.  Correct?

Thanks,

Updating the password is just like any other but you need to map out what programs may use this password to function.  This can be things like Backup software/Antivirus software/Internal application software.
Yes you can revert back if anything goes wrong.  Very easy
