Network minitoring tools

Hi All ,
we are looking for a network monitor tool (if poss free) that can monitor a number of server over the internet via VPN.

we have a number of server (SBS,w2k,Linux & other)each with it own LAN & VoIP systems  and a central  service center.
we would like to monitor all the server for system & software problems as well as the server at each site monitoring its own LAN and report back to us any problem.

any ideas ?
