Windows SBS 2003 - Migrating to new hardware, but only want to keep the Exchange mailboxes

Hi,

I'm migrating our company's SBS 2003 server data to new hardware today, but I only want to keep the Exchange 2003 mailboxes, and data folders, as the old AD is a mess, and our company name has changes recently.

I plan to build the AD from scratch, rename, build the AD from scratch, and exmerge out the mailboxes from the old server, and exmerge them back into the new server.

When I exmerge the mailboxes in, will AD create user accounts to match the mail boxes, or will I have to create new users to match the mail box names, and associate the user accounts with mailboxes?

Also if you see any other flaws in this migration, please feel free to point them out!

Thanks,
Fin

Ignore the last part of the above comment as permissions won't matter if you are re-creating users and not using ADMT

Apologies for the delay in replying. I was waiting to see if people had attempted to migrate SBS and it's associated data (Exchange & files) to new hardware, without bringing the shaky AD of the old server. It seems that the process is relatively straight forward, and there's no issues with NTFS, or data moving to a completely new environment
