how to recover sent or received emails

one of our customers is using exchange and storing their emails on a local pst file.  their hard drive became corrupt and windows had to be re-installed on it but they have lost their emails.

does anyone know if there is a way of recoving any of their emails from exchange.

they have learned from this and are storing their emails on the exchange mailboxes

Sorry bu tif the amil was being delivered to .pst fiels as opposed to the users mailbox then there isnt a copy on the server, end of.
This is a management issue. Users should not be able to select where their emails are stored. Company Policy should make this clear.
You MAY be able to get the emails back for the last 30 days (depending on your retnation policy) by clicking the deleted items on the users deleted items, and then in outlook Tools>recovered deleted items, but thats it.
