Website using local URL instead of port and application combination with Visual Studio.Net 2005

I would like to run my Visual Studio.Net web application using a url like "local.sitename.com" instead of "localhost:2306/sitename".  Is there a way to do this?  The project uses .Net 2.0

In IIS Point a virtual directory to your web site root, then edit your host file to point local.sitename.com to your local IP address.

There should also be an option to start debugging on an eksternal site if you check the properties of the web project in VS.

Thanks for your reply... I realized I had to get the most recent service pack in order to even see the option you mentioned... after updating I was able to run it the way I wanted to.
Had to get the most recent service pack installed for visual studio, then McKirk's solution worked.
