I have installed Windows 2003 OS and I want to install HP AIO 4255 on the Machine . The driver CD supplied by HP does not contain a Win 2003 driver. The Win xp driver shipped does not work with Win 2003

there is no driver for windows 2003 :

you can try the vista drivers, or others, but if they do not work, you'll need another printer, or OS to have it work
I have the same problem with C4183 - the only solution i've found so far is not to use the installer...

1. Download your drivers - (i've used "basic print & scan" pack)
2. Run the program - wait while it is "optimized"
3. Do not press any buttons in the installer program - Now in your %temp% folder (C:\Document&settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Temp (but better change it ti C:\temp =))) you will find the "hp_webrelease" folder... (or just search for it)
4. Go to "devices console" (it is where the "?" marks are found) and install drivers there
5. when promted for driver location - use the "C:\Temp\hp_webrelease" - there will be two versions of drivers there - in my case v.1.0.0.4 & v.2.0.1.3. - the second version is not installing on the win2003 - so you'll have to chose the old version
6. This version have much less functionality then the last one - but it still provides basic scanning & printing support...
Aha. I did it - there is a full solution available:
  1. Download your drivers - (i've used "basic print & scan" pack)
  2. Run the program - wait while it is "optimized"
  3. Do not press any buttons in the installer program - Now in your %temp% folder (C:\Document&settings\\Application Data\Temp (but better change it ti C:\temp =))) you will find the "hp_webrelease" folder... (or just search for it)
  4. in this folder open (with text editor) the autorun.inf file and perform the following operations:

    • find line containing oslist=410,490,500,501 - change to oslist=410,490,500,501,502
    • find section [Run2] and there you will see something like:

      [Run2]launchbase=%sourcepath%setup\1=hpzshl%ICE_SUFFIX%.exe -m ICEPreShield,HPSecurity,CompositeDev,Printer,MassStorage2=hpzopt01.exe -forcetypical DriversOnly3=hpzpsc01.exe -list ProductReleases -CPE4=[Run.SetRecovery]5=hpzcdl01.exe -storesourcepathqualifier=%os%

      delete line that contains hpzshl%ICE_SUFFIX%.exe - this program seems to cause problems on windows 2003.
      delete line that contains [Run.SetRecovery] - windows 2003 by default have no support for it (SystemRestore) anyway.
      renumber the strings so that they look like:

      [Run2]
      launchbase=%sourcepath%setup\
      1=hpzopt01.exe -forcetypical DriversOnly
      2=hpzpsc01.exe -list ProductReleases -CPE
      3=hpzcdl01.exe -storesourcepath
      qualifier=%os%

    • delete all lines in autorun.inf, containing hpzshl%ICE_SUFFIX%.exe just like above (don't forget the numbers)
    • run the program setup.exe (you do not need to use the compatibility settings)
Drivers should work perfect with the HPImaging and all other nice features =))))
