C/C++ Degugger in Microsoft Development Environment

On my laptop I have a program that came pre-installed (the laptop belongs to the school, i have it for work) which i want to begin to use to do programming in C that i need to do because of the debugger that i have heard it has. The program is called Microsoft Development Environment 2003 and the about page says that my installed products are:

Microsoft Visual Basic .NET
Microsoft Visual C# .NET
Microsoft Visual C++ .NET
Microsoft Visual J# .NET
Crystal Reports for Visual Studio .NET
Microsoft SQL Server Report Designer

My understanding is that the Microsoft Visual C++ .NET product comes with a compiler and debugger that can be used for programs in C too. I can't get it to work. I have tried it with programs that i know work, (i have the LCC compiler that i have ran from the command line and that works fine). What is the secret to get the Microsoft Program to do work with C? or am I mistaken and that product doesn't work with C?

thanks for ur help!!

wow, you are right i created a console project and it worked fine. What i had been doing was selecting a new txt file and then just substituting the .c for .txt and that wasnt working for me. But going about it the way you said it works perfect. Thanks.
