Maximum useable RAM for 32bit linux / Ubuntu kernel

Is there a 32bit kernel for linux, preferably for Ubuntu, that will work with 8GB of RAM?  I understand that stock kernels only support up to 4G.

This is the problem that I keep running into.  I keep finding conflicting information that no 32bit OS can handle over 4G of RAM and then I find answers that say to use PAE or server kernels.  I stumbled across this just recently and I think it sums up my answer in that the Ubuntu "server" kernel has PAE support by default whereas the "desktop" kernel does not.

The bottom line is that 32bit Desktop kernel up to 4GB and 32bit Server kernel up to 64GB through PAE.
