Proxy Settings for Desktops and Laptops

Hi,

What, if any, is the benefit of having ISA do Transparent proxying for Desktops and Laptops rather than configuring proxy settings within IE on the clients?

thanks,

The benefit is that by doing transparent proxying when a laptop is used on another network, such as a home network, the user doesn't need to know how to turn off the proxy setting to get online. On my network I would use transparent proxying and disable access to setting a proxy server on my workstations via GPO.

So other than ease of administration with transparent proxying, there is no performance benefit with a configured proxy address in IE? To enable Transparent Proxying via ISA do I just set the Desktops/Laptops default gateway to the IP of the ISA's internal NIC?

thanks,
