Unable to access internet after switching from work LAN to home broadband

Recently I have made the switch to working from home with a machine from the office. However, I cannot get it to access the internet. I also have a work laptop which connects fine with a wireless connection. However, the desktop does not have a wireless connection. I plugged it in directly to the router and the network connection says its connected but I cannot access the web. I have "repaired" the network and get no error messages. The machine is using XP service pack 2 and I need to log onto the machine. When I log on to the machine I need to select the network from work in the "log on to" portion of the log on screen, whereas on the laptop I "log on to" the machine itself.  Is there a way I can get the desktop to access the internet using my current method of log on?

Thanks,
MJ
