Create Image of Word Document Pages

I want to create a GUI for quick previewing of Microsoft Word documents?  Previewing the first page is acceptable.  Is there some way to create an image (jpg, probably) of the first page of a Word document that can be used in the GUI?

Here's the basic functionality envisioned...

* Select folder
* The file names of the Word docs in folder and subfolders displayed
* Selection of file name results in display of first page in the preview pane

Rather than creating my own, are there Microsoft Word preview utilities that exist?

Well, you sent me a link that lead me to tons of links doing exactly what I want to do... convert Microsoft Word into JPG.

The second part of my question, whether a utility already exists for quick viewing of Word documents, wasn't answered by anyone.  So, I suspect I wasn't clear enough, or one doesn't exist.

Thanks for help!

Word Viewer allows open and viewing of MS Word documents, but not editing.  That is too cumbersome and time-consuming.

I have hundreds of Word documents that I and others want to quickly view.  (The first page is sufficient.)  We don't want to call each up one after the other.  Rather, we want some software that will allow us to click on a file name in a list and immediately see the Word document's first page in a window.

Think of software to preview pictures.  Click on a file name, and you see a preview image of the picture.  But, think .doc instead of .jpg (or image) file being previewed.

DocBuilder doesn't do what I'm after.  My description must be poor.  Here's a "picture" of my GUI screen.

==================================
FileName List         Document Preview Window
-------------------------------------------------------------
HowTo.doc            |XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX|
WhyTo.doc            |XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX|
WhereTo.doc        |XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX|
WhenTo.doc         |XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX|
==================================

Click on, say, HowTo.doc in the FileName List, and the first page of HowTo.doc appears right next to it in the Document Preview Window (where the Xs are now.)

I want to know how to display the first page of a Word document in a window.  (I don't want to open the document in Word.)

Thanks for the link, itkamaraj.  The Fast Doc Viewer opens Word Docs, but loses almost all formatting.  The view is quite skewed.

I'm beginning to believe this is a harder task than I at first guessed!

When replies to this question stop, and I award points, I'll split points giving your replies credit.  Believe me, I appreciate your attempts to help me.

[Itkamaraj], the WordPlus+ software you referred me to gets quite close to what I want.  [dlc110161], your suggestion follows much the same paradigm as the WordPlus+ software...

* Select a folder.
* View a list of .doc files.
* Select a file in the directory list.
* Word .doc displayed in preview pane.

One of the biggest reasons why I want to take control, displaying a preview of the .doc file in a preview pane of my own creation, is that the above approaches, and anything I can find, only displays the documents in one folder.  The various doc files I've created in my project life is overwhelming.  I would like to display all the .doc in a folder and child subfolders in one list.  Then, just arrowing up and down thru them I can see the previews.  If I have to change directory to directory it will add MUCH time to the time required to preview many documents!

Maybe there is a work around in one of the above approaches.  I am going to suggest to WordPlus+ an enhancement.  I am going to research Word preview techniques; maybe I can find something within Word.

Don't worry, everyone, I will split points when replies hit a solution, or when the replies slow down.  I appreciate your efforts to help.

My basic question is still... how to generate a JPG of a Word document, that I can display in a GUI control?
Thanks, everyone!
