How to implement password aging with mod_auth_mysql and htaccess

I have an application that is currently using htaccess and mod_auth_mysql for authentication on Unix.

I need to implement password aging. I added a "password creation date" field in my users table where I can store the date the password was created/updated. How can I set it up so the server can check whether or not the password has expired or is about to expire and give the user a warning message?

I've thought of modifying all my cgi scripts to check the password age and that should work (I think), but I would like to avoid modifying all the scripts.

Is there a way to do it in htaccess or is there some other way to make the server check?

Thanks.

ASKER

I was going to go ahead and modify the cgi scripts to check the password age, however, I realized this will only solve the problem for the cgi scripts and not for the static pages.

I need a solution that will work for both static pages and cgi scripts.

Thanks again.
