remote desktop disconnects whenever connecting server to vpn

I have a new server in a data center.  The only way i can access it is through Remote desktop.

I am trying to connect to the vpn on my own server (the vpn works, i can access it using my laptop 2000 miles away)

the problem is that every time i attempt to connect, my Remote desktop session gets terminated, and I am forced to have the datacenter forcibly reboot the server.

Any ideas on what the problem may be?

Thanks.

What kind of VPN  - Hardware or Software based?  Is your VPN Server also your Terminal Server?

Are you using appliance bases VPN's  and is that IPSEC, SSL, PPTP, L2TP?

Someone might have better luck helping you with a little more info.
