Copy data from a Response form field, after completionf, to a related Main Topic form field

Hello,

I have created a discussion database and need to populated a data field on the Main Topic once a related child document (Response) has been created. Would like to pass the author field for the Response back to the related Main Topic.

I do not have any experience in Lotus Script. Do have some limited experience using @commands.
Any advise is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Can I ask a question?
Is there a particular reason why you need to change Author fields instead of granting Editor rights to all users?

The code for changing Authors field in parent document is not trivial.
Probably it needs to be recursive, to loop through all ancestor documents, and include list handling.

The second problem comes from the same user rights we try to wrestle with- person who fires the code, trying to make changes in parent doc, needs to have Author privileges, this means it must be somebody with at least Editor access to this application or already listed in Authors field.

This means, the changes in Authors fields must be done by scheduled agent, signed by somebody with at least Editor access.

Can I also ask a question (or two):
- why did you create your own discussion database, meaning: why doesn't the standard db fit your needs?
- why do you want the author of any response present on the main level?

Sorry if I am not clear.  I am not looking to change the Author field of the Main Topic doc.  Rather, I am looking to populated a new field with the name of the author for the related Response.  If that is not possible, then I can live with just having a field on the Mian Topic that will indicate that it has a response.

The reason is that I have created this Discussion DB as a support DB.  I have managed to send specific Super Users an e-mail with a link, depnding on the category, notifying them that there is a new posting, which would be the a link to the Main Topic.  Since there are more than one person that this link is being sent to, I would like to update the Main Topic an a way so when the Super User accesses the Main Topic via the link they can see if someon has already responded to the Main doc.  Otherwise, they may create a duplicate Response.

Thank you olaraak. I was able to use the @DocDescendants to inform a SuperUser, when entering the Main Topic docmuent for the first time that there is alreay a response to the Main Doc.  I just incorporated the result in a message on the Main Doc.
