Win32_BIOS serial number validity?

Win32_BIOS query for the baseboard seial number - if the motherboard was every replaced, would you get an incorrect read on this as compared to the factory serial on the case of an HP server for example??

You wouldn't get an error because if you replaced your motherboard then it would come with it's own (new version) of bios relating to it's new chipset so it will work fine.  What are you doing that makes you ask this question ?  It may give the experts a hint as to how better to ask this question.

What I guess I meant to say was if I am doing inventory by physical tag on a computer and I ever changed the motherboard, would the reading in this WMI query give me a different read out than the serial number of the chassis?  So then, in essence this wouldn't be an accurate way to track assets?

Guess not a full proof way to track assets then.  Wonder if SMS, Altirus and like tools use this class for inventory?  Thanks
