2nd instance in sql server 2000 naming issue

In our second instance we are trying to create a database with the same name as a database in the first instance.  I am getting an error of the media set for database 'blah' has 2 family members but only 1 are provided.   I am trying to restore the database, should I try new database?

It sounds as if, when you created the backup, you did not clear the destination text box before you selected a backup destination.

Do the backup again, and be sure that the destination text box is empty before adding the new destination.
The error means that when you created the backup you used more than one device or backup file (which is why I mentioned the Destination text box). If you are trying to restore that backup, you must provide all of the backup devices or files.

When you have 2 instances, always make them NAMED instances.   If you don't do that and can have confusion (same db-names) you can have trouble.

But in this case I think it's simply that the restore will locate the files on the original place. If not availlable or in use by a db of the other instance .... an error will occur.  After selecting the backup file, click on the options-tab. You will find the files and their locations. Make it the location for your instance

Something has to be in the destination field, so sayeth the text box that pops up.
Yes.

Click REMOVE to delete the default path

Click ADD and then follow the steps to select a database
As I said earlier:

Do the backup again, and be sure that the destination text box is empty before adding the new destination.

You have to have a destination.
Now getting an error of "File 'C:\blah\backup' is claime by 'WS_Data1_log'(2) and 'WS_Data1'(1).  The with move clause can be used to relocate one or more files.
Are you trying to put the data and log files for the second instance in the same folder as the data and log files from the first instance?
No, I am trying to put them in the MSSQL$BELTEK2000 folder which is the second instance.  I tried to put them in the data folder and the backup folder.
