WSS 3.0 installed on SBS 2003 - damage limitation required

A few days ago my collleague installed WSS 3.0 on our SBS 2k3 machine, deleting our intranet and breaking RWW in the process. After my initial 'wtf!*%@' reaction, (after looking into this last year i had made it clear that we wouldnt be installing it!), I've managed to get RWW working and have started work on recreating our intranet from an old image. So far it looks like we've been lucky (OWA working, pdas still syncing, emails coming through, rpc-https ok, remote uses online etc, etc).

From what I've been reading you cant simply uninstall WSS3.0, but is there anyway I can just disable it? I have a sea of red in my application event log (Source WSS3.0, Event IDs: 5586 and 6398) but the server is overwise stable.

Alternatively i have an 2 week old Acronis image to fall back on, but then i'll have the headache of syncing mailboxes and data + associated downtime (not to mention me losing a weekend) - even so not sure if this might'nt be a better option....

Any advice welcome

-Lenny

you should be able to uninstall wss from add/remove programs.  are you having problems with this?

ok - I will take an image and give it a go over the weekend.
the only issue i've encountered with uninstalling wss from add/remove programs is that it sometimes refuses to uninstall... you click uninstall.. it acts like it might uninstall, but the progress bar doesn't go anywhere and then the uninstaller exits as if it is done... but when you go back and look, it's still in add/remove programs.

if this happens, you can manually uninstall wss.
i'll post back with  a link with the steps on how to manually uninstall wss (need to go look for it)
many thnx!

Well, followed the link (and tried a few others) I didnt have much joy uninstalling WSS3.0 - not even when booting up in safe mode. I've now just disabled it from running which has stopped the error messages in event log. I guess that will have to do, I dont wont to risk any nasty side effects that might come from ripping it out...

thanks for assist zephyr
as a follow up for anyone else who might find this thread/problem...

I managed to uninstall it in the end, after i had uninstalled .NET Framwork 3.0 from the server the add/remove programs worked when i then uninstalled sharepoint services 3.0
