asked on

can not re-install software after it was uninstalled

I installed CISCO VPN Client
Had problems unintalled it.
Went to reinstall - it said I had to reboot
I rebooted
Went to reinstall
now it says, "A previous version of the VPN client was recently unintalled, but the computer was not rebooted."
I shutdown the PC
Rebooted
tried reinstallatioin of VPN client
Getting same error.
Used CCleaner to clean registry
Still a problem...
I wonder where the "checkpoint" is located in the registry that says that I have to reboot before I can install.

The registry key you are looking for is the following (Windows XP).

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce\CISCOREBOOTFLAG

Just delete that key and it should allow you to install.
