Should I create a new MX record because our DNS entries were changed

Problem:
I have a customer that has their DNS entries pointed to the wrong IP addresses.   The web developer made some dns changes that have changed them.  Someone has suggested that I create a new mx record, but I am not sure if that is what I should do.  I read the link below.

The MX record points to a hostname (A record), as long as the a record resolve to the proper IP address you are okay.
U should contact the person who changed the DNS records to create a MX record going to your mail server.
