Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer

I am trying to load a new HP laptop with XP Pro, when I come to continue the installation, I receive the message;
"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer....."

I can search the directories in DOS, so I know the hard drive is installed, what else do I need to do?

you need to find the chipset/IDE/SATA driver from your manufactorer and supply that to the instalation during set-up.by pressing F6

As you say the laptop is new so it will have the latest componants which XP will not be aware of and so will not have the necessary drivers (I know you can browse the disk during set-up but that is because windows uses a generic driver during the set-up process)

Check the laptop's BIOS for an AHCI setting --> and disable it.   This changes the way the BIOS accesses the hard disk drives ... and is not "understood" by the XP installation CD.

... once AHCI is disabled XP should install with no problem.
