usb to rs-232 howto...

Hi,

I was given a usb to rs-232 converter without drivers windows seems to recognize this as in "system" i have COM1 and my motherboard don't have one so i think it should be it but when i try to use tera term or hyperterminal i cannot connect to cisco equipment i already tried with switches and AP (didn't try any other verndor). Can you give me any solution what to do with it? Maybe there is a driver in the internet that works betten then windows one? On the cable itself i don't have any information about vendor only "made in china" ;-) and "plug and play"

Best,

Do you know what brand the cable is?
Sorry didn't catch the no vendor info in the description, can you upload a picture of the cable or describe it, what color it is etc?

i've installed the driver, installation want ok, rebooted the computer and sill the same - no answer from TT or hyperterminal.
Under hyperterminal do you have any options for COMM ports, and if so have you tried them all?

comfiguration of the com port is ok 9600-8-N-1 i have only one com port to choose from and tcp/ip. Under TT i have 4 ports (default configuration of TT) then i choose com1 i seems to opening the port (no error message) but i get no answer from the equipment and then i choose in TT com2,3 or 4 i get an error message so com1 shoud be the one. But whats strange is that when i unplug the cable from pc this port com1 dont disapper from system and i think it should whats more in hardware i don't have anything called "usb to serial" i think it should be something - am i right?

The person from which i have the cable said that it was working - now i don't have contact with him so i cant ask how he configuiured it.
If you look under Device Manager do you see Prolific USB-to-Serial under Ports (Comm and LPT)?

No and dont have Prolific anywhere and under Ports there is Communications Port (COM1) which is using windows drivers
Try unistalling the com1 from device manager, right click and unistall. Then reinstall the drivers I gave you, if it doesn't work again I probably gave you the wrong drivers for it.
