It sounds like you might need the chipset drivers for your motherboard. If you know the make/model of the motherboard you can download this from the manufacturers web site.
Absolutely, If it is a dell, hp, gateway goto the manufactures site and download all of the chipset drives.

If you are not sure or it's a homebuilt than you need to open the case and read the make model off the the chip on the motherboard. "Intel 845g"  when you come up with and model you will go to that manufactures site and download the appropriate chipset drivers for that motherboard. It's sound like it's an intel.

If you are not sure post your make / model of the motherboard here.

my motherboard is AMD athlon 64 X2 dual
You need to know the precise model number of the motherbaord - then go to theA AMD site and download and install the driver
KCTS, is correct.
If you don't know the modle number it should be on a chip on your motherboard.
You will have to open up the case and have a look if its not in any of your documentation - Makes include ASUS, Gigabite, MSI, Abit etc - you need the manufacturer and model number - the get the correct driver from the website
Yes, the documentation was probibly thrown away or you may have never seen it. I would recommend getting a flashlight and shinning it at the chips on your motherboard. The chipset is usually located near the lower middle portion of the board. Make sure to write down the model number.

What you are describing is a setting in your cmos setup. Look for an option like fast boot....
