How do I download the MPEG movie onto my Mac?

I have recorded a movie on my digital camera and would like to get it into iMovie but it says there is no camera attached. The Mac is an iMac 700 MHz PowerPC G4 running OS X 10.3.9 and iMovie 3.0.3.

According to this site, iMovie will download only using Firewire, not USB:

If your camera supports firewire, you may be able to transfer that way.
However, there are suggestions elsewhere on the web that Sony cameras may not be compatible with iMovie:

Thanks for your help strung - sorry for the delay in getting back to you. It's not good news though. My camera doesn't support firewire. Is there any other way I can get it off the camera? It has a MagicGate Memory Stick Duo but I don't have a card reader. Can you recommend one?

I've just managed to import it into iPhoto 7.1.3 on my newer Intel iMac running OS X 10.4.11. I have also copied the MPEG files across to the hard drive too. Very happy now, thanks for all your help!
