Need recommendation on stress/load testing software

I have a web based survey application.  The application is written in ASP with an SQL 2005 database.  I want to test the maximum concurrent users I can have participating in surveys before the app's performance falls below acceptable levels.

Ideally, I'd like the software to spit out some sort of chart that shows me how response time is affected as the number of users increases.

I've seen some tools out there, some of them very expensive - like $15,000 - $25,000 to simulate unlimited users.  Needless to say, that's very expensive.

I'd like to simulate a max of 3000-5000 users as this is my target for the application.

Any suggestion?

thank Arnold.

Anything else that provides a bit more graphical interface and charts?  Company is willing to spent up to $5000.

Test the free tools first and see whether they provide you with the information you need. See what type of data you get in response.  Also reference the system's performance monitors for the test.
It could be possible for you to render the data into charts ... bonus instead of some software?
the charts are a requirement from "management" to visually validate the design and the objectives of the project.

So although not critical, the charts would help illustrate the final recommendations and conclusions from the tests.
Personally, I would use the free tools first.
Unfortunately, I have not used a commercial stress test tool to recommend.
